Management homework - a managers interview of a small company/firm

Management philosophy

Good management:
A good manager is a team player. Must create a productive working environment between all the staff. A clean work place is mandatory. I ask that all my staff dress professionally.
I also encourage good attendance. Only when my staff are at work will we keep our competitive edge.
I encourage my staff to be positive. I always reward my staff when the go beyond the call of duty.
I always welcome my staff to give me there input and new ideas on how we can improve our company model. Most important, I discourage the staff to attack or engage in disagreements at all cost.
I encourage the staff to help @ other and cover your fellow worker back when possible.
I'm very demanding, and on the other side , very compassionate. I try not to raise my voice, I encourage everyone to speak respectively and professionally at all times.
I try to make myself important. I've always felt that the more I do the more the owners will depend on me. This will make me very hard to replace. I enjoy doing many different functions at our company. It keep the job more interesting and keeps giving me more challenges.

Management roles:
When making decisions, I try to look at everyone's needs, I try to put myself in there shoes.
I'm looking out for our clients , I keep our staffs ides in mind as well.
All my decisions are focused on improving our business.
I always check with other departments , to see what there needs are. I encourage monthly staff meetings to keep the flow of information constantly flowing.
I'm also looking at the cost to do business. With the economy being challenged, I understand how important it is to keep overhead to a minimum. I'm always looking at ways to cut cost.
A good manager must have a great sense of concern over waste.
I firmly believe that a good company is like a good marriage. Good staff is hard to find and when your lucky to have solid employees working for you, make sure that all there needs an concerns are being addressed. I want them to feel important. I encourage my staff to make decisions and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Just keep them to a minimum.

Estimating how much labor which will go into a job:
When my manager gives me a project, I carefully go over the job and will advise my superior how much the job will entail. Between my extensive experience and others here at the plant, we usually will estimate a job cost within 5% of the final cost. Costing a job is very serious business, mistakes could eventually put anyone out of business. I encourage anyone to prepare a cost sheet, laying out the job and listing all the functions which will be needed to accomplish the job. When projects are on paper , it allow others to look at the estimate and comments when needed. A good manager always invites critic.

Managerial ethics:
I make it point of setting the highest level of ethics. I will not tolerate any people with poor ethics. I always ask my staff to ask and I'll give. There's never a reason to make a poor judgment . I encourage my staff to keep there word. It's what keeps our customers coming back.
